Glass Clean up

Glass to clean up

On Saturday the 8th of November some PAR Dyce volunteers concentrated on broken glass around Dyce Central Park. It was slow and tedious work but everyone worked hard to make the park a safer place for everyone.

Helping and meeting people of the community of Dyce.

On the 27th September 2008 P.A.R. Dyce Organised their second free car wash of the yearCar wash 27th September. The venue was Dyce Primary School car park and the weather was once again very good, with the sun shining from early in the morning, ready for our 9am start.
Pru and Alan supplied us with our precious ingredient (water) from their outside tap. We really appreciated their help, we could not have done the event without them. In attendance our volunteer workforce were Gregor, Ian M., Graham, Ken, Alex, Gladys, Ian R. and Craig. Armed with buckets and soap the first vehicle to get the works was the community minibus.
It was a slow start but Gladys our only female volunteer used her charms and witty banter to convince people that a *Free Car Wash* was a really good idea.
After a few hours we were supplied with tea, coffee and sandwiches by our Angels Carol and Moira. This was the time of the day everybody looks forward to, being 3pm the refreshments were very welcome.
As usual there was great banter and a lot of laughs amongst the volunteers and customers, the funniest event being when someone commented on how many cars were smelling extra fresh and aromatic, it was suggested that people had freshened their car interiors before coming to the Free Car Wash but the mystery was soon unravelled when we noticed that Graham was using Air freshener to clean the alloys instead of the cleaner! In his own defence he claimed the bottles looked identical.
Near the end of our event the weather turned bad but P.A.R. Dyce were once again successful in helping and meeting people of the community of Dyce.

Clean up.

Saturday 16th of August

"Thanks and congratulations to the members and volunteers
for the effort and enthusiasm"

Clean up Aug 08
Original pictures and some more are available in our album.

On the 16th of August at 9am Par Dyce had organised the second litter pick of the summer at Dyce central park. It was an overcast but dry morning, 12 members and volunteers turned up, all in a jovial and happy go lucky mood and raring to go to attack the central park litter. Aberdeen City Council again supported us, equipping Par Dyce for the task with tongs, black bags and gloves. After a health and safety briefing the small army got to work, dispersing themselves to different areas with a couple of teams concentrating particularly on glass which could be a danger to children playing in those areas.

Carol turned up half way through with a welcome cup of coffee and biscuits, Ian whistled like an army commander and all the troops rushed to the nafi.

By now the sun was shining and the troops returned to work before they asked for a second cup. The grass had recently been cut which shredded the litter in to small pieces but Par Dyce persevered to pick up all the smallest of pieces. Gregor met a lady who made him smile when she commented that since us lot had started cleaning the park the council has stopped cutting the grass. Gregor also became the butt of a joke from some Par Dyce members when he found a shopping trolly which he would use to transport his pickings, then someone shouted at Gregor: "The litter will fall through the holes", Gregor had no reply.

After the clean-up a BBQ was waiting for the hungry troops. Rab had kindly taken his BBQ along on the back of his trailer and set it up in the car park. Mrs Roach made homemade burgers to die for and Ken cooked them to perfection. The female volunteers made sure the food and drinks were displayed and distributed so no-one was left out.

Everyone had a lot of fun on the day and even as the work was being done laughter and banter could be heard at various areas in the park. Par Dyce have successfully completed another event helping the community in Dyce, and thanks and congratulations go to the members and volunteers for the effort and enthusiasm that went in to the event.

BBQ August 16th - Weather permitting.

Assisting the community.

A lady at Glentanar Cresent in Dyce had become concerned about her garden hedge which was becoming a danger to people using the footpath. Being unable to cut back the Assisting the communityhedge herself, she contacted P.A.R. Dyce and we were more than happy to help. On Thursday 24th of July three of the P.A.R. Dyce men went into action. Arriving at 9:30am Ian Milne, Graham Paul and Ian Ramsay working once again like a well oiled machine trimmed the hedge and collected the cuttings in a garden waste bin and not even stopping for coffee on what was a hot sunny morning.
While we were there the lady also mentioned a problem with her doorway, a loose fitting was tripping up people. A quick investigation by the P.A.R. Dyce team found the problem and quickly repaired the matwell.
The lady was very pleased with the P.A.R. Dyce work and we were happy to be of assistance.

We are happy to help.

We are here to help the people of Dyce and if you need something done
or know of someone who we could assist don't hesitate to contact us.

P.A.R. Dyce Meal

Meal

On Wednesday 27th of October P.A.R. Dyce organised a meal for it's members in the Greentrees in Dyce, Their wives were also invited in recognition of their support during our first year. Thirteen people attended (we're not superstitious). The Menu had a huge selection but everyone had a very healthy appetite, some having starters, some having sweets all having a main course and the fare was enjoyed by all. There was great conversation and banter but all agreed that we would really like new members and Volunteers to join us.
